The White House blog is urging the public to be more aware of cyber crime and security. October has been designated National cybersecurity awareness month. The video of President Obama is encouraging because even the White House recognizes that consumers must protect themselves from on-line threats. There are a number of common sense steps that can greatly reduce your risk.
But I am disappointed because the approach again throws the burden on the consumer rather than on the Internet itself. DNSSEC will do more to reduce threats than any steps that can be taken by consumers who use the web, email or Voice over IP telephones. The White House appears to have lost the adoption initiative started during the Bush Administration. It's time to move things ahead.
