Recent high profile Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks on Twitter, Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud, and on-line betting sites, plus access problems at Facebook, Gmail, Microsoft's loss of Sidekick data and recent security patches from Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco, and Google's Android mobile service platform all point to continued shakiness in reliability of web based services.
These are the big boys of computing and they are still vulnerable. All of this activity has some asking "Is the Internet Falling Apart?"
The Los Angeles Times reports "Microsoft's Sidekick debacle brings much-hyped 'cloud' back to Earth"
Like any new technology there will be challenges for early adopters. But denial of service attacks have been around for a long time and despite many apparent solutions, even Department of Homeland Security web sites are vulnerable.
DDoS attacks are still a problem as is malware because we have not made security scalable at a level that is Internet-wide. Until that happens the cloud is just a cloud.
